At Rectory CE Primary School, we believe that education is about more than academic success—it’s about nurturing the whole child. Our personal development offer is a vital part of our curriculum, designed to help children grow in confidence, character, and compassion.

Through opportunities such as pupil leadership roles, enrichment activities, circles, and values-based learning, we support children to:

  • Develop resilience, independence, and emotional wellbeing

  • Build respectful relationships and celebrate diversity

  • Explore their talents, interests, and aspirations

  • Make positive choices and contribute to their community

Personal development empowers children to understand themselves and the world around them. It lays the foundation for lifelong learning, responsible citizenship, and a strong moral compass. At Rectory, we ensure every child is equipped not just for the next stage of education—but for life.

Personal Development & Safeguarding Curriculum: A Whole-Year Approach

At Rectory CE Primary School, we are proud to offer a rich and carefully planned Personal Development and Safeguarding Curriculum that goes beyond our core PSHE provision. This year, we’ve mapped out our PD offer across all three of our school provisions, ensuring every child receives consistent, meaningful opportunities to grow in character, confidence, and awareness.

Our curriculum spans ten key thematic areas:

  • 🧠 Mental Health

  • 🏃 Physical Health

  • 🛡️ Keeping Safe (Offline & Online)

  • 💰 Economic Understanding

  • 🌍 Citizenship, Character & Careers

  • 🎨 Enrichment

  • 🚀 Wider Opportunities

  • 🕊️ SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural)

  • ⚖️ Equality & Diversity

Each term is packed with assemblies, workshops, themed days, and enrichment activities — from Mental Health Day and Safer Internet Week to Careers sessions. These experiences are designed to help pupils navigate the world with empathy, resilience, and a strong sense of self.

By embedding these themes throughout the year, we ensure our children are not only academically prepared but also personally empowered to thrive in modern society.
